Introduction: The Eurasian reed-warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) does what it says on the can; sing in reeds and originate from Europe. They inhabit reeds, bulrushes and tall grass of pans, floodplains and rivers. This species can be difficult to observe as they will disappear into thick vegetation when alarmed.
Distribution: Rare, but regular observations have been recorded in the north-east of Namibia.
Diet: Eats mainly winged insects it can glean from middle and upper reed sections. Also takes spiders, small snails and berries.
Description: Greyish-brown upper parts and creamy white underparts and a brown tail. Produces a rather monotonous, repetitive churring notes, often changing pitch within each series.
Breeding: Extralimital.
Size: 12cm.
Weight: 10g.
