Introduction: Sightings of blackcaps (Sylvia atricapilla) are rare in Namibia, mainly because they are a non-breeder in the country. Their normal habitat is in woodland with thick undergrowth.

Distribution: Rare recordings only from Möwe Bay on the Skeleton Coast and on the Kavango River east of Rundu.
Diet: Not known.

Description: A small to medium-sized warbler with a medium tail and rather long wings for the size of the bird. Atricapilla is a Latin word for 'black-haired' meaning 'black-capped'. A rich, loud warble can last for up to 7 seconds.
Breeding: Extralimital.

Size: 13cm.

Weight: 18g.
