Bronze winged courser
Introduction: Bronze-winged coursers (Rhinoptilus chalcopterus) frequent mainly mopane woodland, suburban and Damaraland dense bush. Roosting is under the shade of a tree by day.
Distribution: Etosha National Park, Caprivi and other northern and central Namibian locations. Absent from Namib Desert.
Diet: Nocturnal foragers for mostly insects.
Description: Chalcopterus is Greek for 'copper' or 'bronze-winged' and this colouration may function as a beacon when these coursers migrate at night.
Breeding: Usually 2 or 3 eggs are laid in a hoof-print with a rim of twigs the only attempt at forming a nest between July and December.
Size: 27cm.
