Namibia's Ministry of Tourism "shocked" about nudism at Sossusvlei

During their visit to Sossusvlei in the heart of the Namib Desert, some tourists took the motto "back to nature" a little too far. A photo of three apparently naked men on 'Big Daddy', which circulated on social media, caused an outraged reaction in Namibia this week. 'Big Daddy' is the highest dune at Sossusvlei.

The Ministry of Tourism was shocked, reports the daily newspaper The Namibian. This is immoral behaviour that also violates the law in Namibia and is therefore punishable by law.

Unfortunately, the incident happened some time ago, The Namibian quotes the ministry as saying. The holidaymakers in question had already left the country by the time they found out about it. The nationality of the practitioners of nudism was not reported.

The Ministry of Tourism called on the public to quickly report violations of the law or park regulations to the authorities or the police. This would allow swift action to be taken and those involved to be held accountable. It is also conceivable that they could be denied access to the national parks in future.

Sossusvlei is located in the Namib-Naukluft National Park and in the heart of the Namib Desert. The Namib Sand Sea has been a World Heritage Site since 2013.
