The organisation, Transparency International (TI) has at the end of January 2024  released its annual Corruption Perception Index (CPI), with Namibia scoring 49 of possible one hundred points, the same as a year ago.

The score of one hundred indicates low corruption levels and the figure zero shows high corruption levels).

With its score of 49 Namibia remains at 59th position among 180 nations, which were scrutinised by TI, which has its headquarters in Berlin, Germany, remaining steady in the middle field.

The global average remains at a rather low 43 points and most countries have not improved their efforts to stem corruption, according to TI.

Sub-Saharan Africa scored an average at 33, with the lowest-ranked country being Somalia with a ranking of 11, showing no improvement.

The Seychelles kept their top position in Africa with a score of 71, followed by Cabo Verde (64) and Botswana with 59 points. The three top countries worldwide with the lowest corruption perception index are Denmark with a score of 90, followed by Finland (87) and New Zealand with 85 points. Germany scored 78points and is ranked ninth among the 180 scrutinised countries.
