Namibia holidaymakers in Windhoek can now take an acoustic trip back to the pre-independence era. The new permanent exhibition "Stolen Moments" at the Independence Museum in Windhoek  is now open to visitors, co-curator Olivia Nakale told NamibiaFocus today.

The official opening took place in December. However, the last necessary touches took until mid-March.

The multimedia exhibition "Stolen Moments - Namibian Music History Untold" brings to life the underground pop culture of the 1950s to 1980s in Namibia. According to the press release, there are 13 listening stations where songs can be played. In addition, there is a sound installation consisting of interviews with musicians and contemporary witnesses as well as a 120-minute video projection on dance styles of that time. Record covers, music memorabilia and photos give a visual impression.

More background and a foretaste is provided by a video clip on the YouTube channel of the German Federal Foreign Office of an interview with the lead curator Aino Moongo. Also interesting is a Facebook page about the project, which is no longer updated. The exhibition is the result of cooperation and funding involving many institutions from Namibia and Germany.
