Gondwana Collection Namibia signs UNESCO Sustainability Initiative

All Gondwana Collection Namibia accommodations have signed the UNESCO Sustainable Travel Pledge. The initiative, launched by UNESCO and the Expedia Group, strives to promote sustainable travel. The aim is to promote environmental protection and local communities as well as to preserve cultural heritage worldwide.

“Gondwana Collection Namibia gladly joined this voluntary international UNESCO initiative, especially as its accommodation establishments have already been awarded the highest seal of quality on national level by Eco Award Namibia in recent years” says Gondwana’s Environmental and Social Impact Officer, Stephanie de Lange. "The Pledge supports travellers who want to explore the world responsibly and learn about other cultures to make informed choices about their destinations and accommodation."

Sustainability is firmly embedded in the corporate concept of Gondwana Collection Namibia. The accommodation establishments, located near attractive destinations throughout Namibia, have solar and water purification systems, separate and recycle waste and seek to reduce the use of single-use plastic. In addition, the tourism company strives to support local businesses by purchasing local products, while minimising transport distances to reduce its carbon footprint.

The tourism company recruits most of its lodge staff from the local communities and trains them in-house to work in the hospitality industry. The Gondwana Care Trust oversees social projects throughout Namibia.

The following Gondwana Collection Namibia accommodations have signed up to the UNESCO Sustainable Travel Pledge: Kalahari Anib Lodge and Camping2Go, Kalahari Farmhouse; Canyon Lodge, Village and Roadhouse; Namib Desert Lodge, Camping2Go, Desert Whisper, The Desert Grace; The Delight Swakopmund; Palmwag Lodge & Camp, Camping2Go; Omarunga Epupa-Falls Camp; Damara Mopane Lodge; Etosha Safari Lodge, Camp and Camping2Go, Etosha King Nehale; Hakusembe River Lodge; Namushasha Lodge and Camping2Go, Namushasha River Villa; Zambezi Mubala Lodge and Camp; Chobe River Camp.
