However, the intention of their trip was by no means to set a world record in energy-neutral e-bike riding. The idea is rather to promote Namibia as an environmentally conscious travel destination. #NamibianSolarRide is a marketing cooperation of well-known brands, initiated by the Frankfurt office of the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB). The partners are the brands Giant Bicycles and Giant Bicycles.

Partners are the brands Giant Bicycles, Jackery (portable power supply solutions) and Jaguar Land Rover Germany. They hired the two Austrian photo journalists Roman Königshofer and Christian Riefenberg, who specialise in outdoor activities. Their reportage on the Namibian Solar Tour appears in the October issue of the adventure magazine Free Men's World.

"A real Namibia adventure trip by bike and LandRover Defender took the influencers to some of the most beautiful regions of Namibia," says Acting Area Manager Europe & Manager Marketing and PR Europe of NTB, Matthias Lemcke. " And: this trip was powered by the Namibian sun!"

Because, as Lemcke continued: "Using the Jackery solarpanels, not only cameras, phones and laptops, but also the Giant E-Mountain Bikes were charged, so that a real greentourism experience was created."

The campaign is of course also running across all of the partners' social media channels. A competition serves as an additional drawing card. The main prize: the latest e-bike model from Giant. Second and third prize: a solar generator from Jackery. The total value of the prizes is more than 10,000 euros.

A small website was specially designed for the competition: Solar-ride.com. It will run until the end of the year. Or more precisely, as the countdown on the website reveals: 148 days left from today.
