Be it ostrich or sunbird, sandgrouse or korhaan, fish eagle or pearl-spotted owl, rosy-faced lovebird or social weaver. Namibia is a paradise for bird lovers. And now there's a new book for this special breed of Namibia holidaymaker.
'Birds of Namibia' by Dayne, Sean, and Steve Braine presents 691 species. What makes it special: For each bird, the book includes a photograph showing it in its natural habitat.
Of course, there are also detailed descriptions of size, plumage, calls, behavior, diet, mating seasons, and nesting habits. Maps provide an overview of the distribution area at a glance.
A systematic structure makes it easy to quickly look up a specific bird. The inclusion of names in English and German (and Afrikaans) for each entry is very helpful. With other bird books, you often have to search through lists at the back of the book.
The book is compact, handy, and robust. This makes it easy to take along on nature excursions without it quickly falling apart.
Anyone who wants to get an overview of the birdlife in anticipation of their Namibian vacation will find what they're looking for at Namibian.org. In our 'Birds' category, they are even grouped according to ornithological classification by family and order.
A list of bird species in Namibia can also be found on Wikipedia. It lists 685 bird species that were sighted in Namibia up to July 2023.
