Among the 50 finalists were two photo motifs from Namibia - and one of them took first place in one of the five categories.
Website visitors to the BBC's nature magazine 'Discover Wildlife' were able to vote. In the 'Camera Phone' category, the photo of a dead camel thorn tree in Dead Vlei near Sossusvlei received the most votes.

In a comparison of the continents, Africa was the clear leader, taking first place in three of the five rubrics. In addition to Dead Vlei from Namibia, visitors to the competition website voted two photos from Kenya into first place. A photo of three cheetahs with a rainbow in Maasai Mara won in the 'Environment' category and a photo of a herd of elephants in Amboseli won in the 'Portraits' group.
The overall winner of the competition, chosen by a jury from the BBC magazine, was a great snapshot from Alaska. The winning photos can be seen on the BBC's Discover Wildlife magazine website.
